Trainer Job Description

The Recess Program Trainers are the direct contact to the students, and as this primary interface, need to communicate well with the students, principal, teachers and staff. Good people skills are a must. Trainer needs to have youth soccer coaching experience and a strong ability to motivate and encourage kids while teaching soccer skills. It is important for the trainer to conduct themselves in a highly professional manner as they model behavior to the students. 

On the field: The trainers will enforce rules and regulate the game encouraging good sportsmanship.

Discipline: If a situation seems uncontrollable to the trainer, then he/she will pass the situation on to the paras so that the proper actions are carried out. The paras will decide whether or not to precede the situation to the principal. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting with the principal and staff at the beginning of the season
  • Setting up the soccer field/s (providing proper equipment)
  • Checking in the students (to monitor who and how many students participate)
  • Organizing the students into teams
  • Enforcing the basic rules of the game to the students
  • Directing students to the paras when there are discipline issues
  • Motivating the students to be active and participate with other students
  • Providing a safe, organized, and active environment for the students to play

Program Coordinator Job Description

The Program Coordinator is responsible for all coordination and administrative tasks. The coordinator will initiate meetings between the trainers, principals, and staff, will schedule walkthroughs, and will work out the schedule with the school. The Program Coordinator should be on site during the first week of each season to assist the trainers in checking in students, and ensuring all is running smoothly.

Responsibilities include:

  • Schedule initial meeting with school staff
  • Schedule and attend walkthroughs with trainers
  • Coordinate the season schedules with the trainers and the participating schools
  • Assist in checking in student participants on the first day of each season
  • Order equipment
  • Schedule trainers and ensuring back up if trainer is unavailable
  • Organizing the end of the year tournament. This includes securing a venue, coordinating with the school for transportation, organizing volunteers, scheduling team play, and ordering t-shirts and refreshments.
  • Administrative tasks such as sending out permission slips for the tournament and press releases.
