This annual camp, started by Pancho, has successfully provided local kids with quality instruction.  This year the club was approached by Rapids goalie David Kramer and Tote Casanovas, who played goalie in Argentina.  They wanted to offer professional goalie training at our camp.  This was the planted seed which grew into the club soliciting 2 other Rapids players to lend their expert talents.  The club approached Marcelo Balboa who very much wanted to instruct developmental level players at the camp.  Next, the club asked and received an agreement with Paul Bravo to instruct the newly added competitive level camp.  These three Rapid players headlined the camp.  In addition to these three, each day Marcelo Balboa and Paul Bravo brought teammates to assist.  Additional Rapids participating were:  Seth Trembly, Lance Key, Scott Vermillion, Ross Paule, Wes Hart, Jason Moore and John Spencer.  John Spencer was selected to the Pepsi Best 11 of the entire MLS.
        Each day was filled with positive experiences.  The Rapids were open, friendly and repeatedly expressed enjoyment with working with kids in our camp.
        A warm moment was when Marcelo eagerly asked for a camp T-shirt so that Jason Moore would have one.  Also, when Erik Van Lieu, a U15 Trebol player, an assistant instructor at Marcelo Balboa’s camp, remarked how he, at 5’ 6” could look straight into the eyes of John Spencer.  Take note Trebol soccer players!  It’s not the size that makes a good soccer player!
     Balboa, Bravo and Kramer enjoyed themselves enough to express an interest in returning to Lafayette for future camps!
